Simply put, podcasting is the automatic downloading of MP3 files
to a computer, typically in a radio show format, that can be downloaded to a
portable player. It has been often described as “Wayne’s World for radio” as it
allows virtually anyone to produce a show and distribute it to anyone to
listen. It has also been called “TiVo for radio” because shows,
once downloaded, can be listened to whenever the listener wants, as many times
has he/she wants, and wherever the listener wants.
WJRH PC’s goal is to provide and
online index of WJRH’s programming. From simple music DJ shows, to talk
shows, comedy programs, and special event coverage. Basically anything that
happens on WJRH can be put up and organized for our listeners to access
whenever they want. Why have to wait up late listen to The Nightspace when you can hear it during breakfast at Farinon. Sound Off between classes, Lafayette Sports Weekly in your dorm
room, Jinga at the gym, RoXY & FoXY from Conway to Gates, Soul of the City walking through Easton and S.A.M.S.U.G. before bed.
Even more then allowing students to
listen to their peers, it broadens the station’s audience to anyone in
the world who has a computer. In effect, WJRH is now globally syndicated with
infinite influence.
Let this be your guide to the soundtrack
of your college education. Let this be your way to leave your mark on the
world.

Click on the link-this will take you a page that decodes the raw
XML feed. Shows are separated chronologically can downloadable by clicking
on "Listen:."
Add to add to a website with an
RSS reader -below the XML URL
are buttons from My Yahoo, My MSN, or News Gator. If you have any of these
services you may click on the buttons and the feed will be added to that
service. New shows will be seen as they are posted on that page, you may
download the shows by clicking on the occupying link.
Add to an RSS reader
program-copy the XML address to
an RSS feed reader application. These programs check any RSS feeds and are
mostly used for gathering news from different sources, most large web
portals like Yahoo! and ESPN have an XML news feed. Any new updates to the
podcast feed will appear as the software updates its subscriptions,
allowing you to click and download the MP3 at your leisure.
Add to an iPodder-all the links above requires you to download
the shows manually, but there is a way to automate this process: iPodder.
Download the program below and run the installation. iPodder works by
automatically downloading from a feed once a new show is posted and
putting the file directly into a custom playlist in iTunes or Windows
Media Player. Just copy the XML link from this page and add it to iPodder,
you will see a listing of the posted shows in the appropriate dialog box.
Please be sure once the software is installed to go to the "scheduler"
and set a 30-minute update, i.e. every half hour iPodder will check the
feed for updates, allowing you to leave the program running constantly,
allowing shows to download on their own.
Search iTunes-on June 28th Apple introduced iTunes
v4.9, and with it, revolutionized podcasting. No longer does one have to
download a podcatcher to enjoy automatic downloading of shows. All one has
to do is go to the “iTunes Podcast Database” and subscribe.
For WJRH fans this makes it incredibly easy to listen to shows. All you
have to do is go to the podcast database in iTunes, go to the search box,
type WJRH, and hit search. It’s that simple!
