April

April 9-12, 16-19, 23-26- Immersion Days (Hugh Moore Park)
Immersion days are day-long programs that will bring history, science, and technology to life for children in grades 3-12.  These programs inform learners of all ages about the people, processes, and products that forged the industrial revolution in eastern Pennsylvania.  The revolution transformed the region from an agricultural economy to a leader in the industrial and transportation revolution. During immersion days, students participate in activities at four main stations: iron making, archaeology, soil testing, and canal life.  Click here for a registration form.

*April 18 - Spring Lecture Series (7:30 PM, National Canal Museum/Two Rivers Landing auditorium) Pine St. rear entrance

"Canal Aqueducts of Great Britain and the United States" by Abba Lichenstein.

May

*May 5 - Canal Boat season opens (Hugh Moore Park)

*May 17 - Spring Lecture Series (7:30 PM, National Canal Museum/Two Rivers Landing auditorium)

"Germany's Canals, Castles and Railroads in 3-D" by Mitchell Dakelman.  During the summer of 2000, Dakelman toured the canals, railroads, and navigable rivers of Germany.  He recorded his experiences with a special camera that takes slides which create the illusion of three dimensions when viewed through the magic of "3-D", while Dakelman's informative but low-key lecture will provide the facts to accompany his images.

June

*June 10 - History Walk (1:30 PM, Hugh Moore Park)

"Exploring Glendron Iron" conducted by Lance Metz.  Visitors can explore our industrial heritage as Metz leads walkers on a search for the blast furnaces and other structures that smelted iron for the industrial revolution.  The 1 1/2 hour walk starts at the Canal Boat Store.
