LVAIC Programs
Lafayette College is a member of the Lehigh Valley Association of Independent Colleges, which sponsors summer study abroad programs in the following locations:
Bonn, Germany - for intermediate and advanced students of German; program includes a homestay with a German family, intensive language instruction, and one week of traveling with the group
Rome, Italy - live in an Italian home and study beginning, intermediate or advanced Italian; many opportunities for independent travel
Seville, Spain - for beginning, intermediate and advanced students of Spanish; live with a Spanish family, take two courses on Spanish language and culture, and travel throughout Andalucía
These are 6-7 week long programs led by faculty from LVAIC institutions, and each earns 2 course credits at Lafayette. Credits and grades from the LVAIC programs transfer automatically; they will appear on your Lafayette transcript, and the grades will factor into your GPA. For more information, please visit LVAIC summer study abroad programs.
Other summer programs
Lafayette College students who wish to participate in other summer study abroad programs are
free to choose any program they want, provided they have a department
head approve the program and sign off on the Summer Petition Form prior to their application. If the program is not pre approved by a department head, the credits may not be accepted by Lafayette. Students pay the program
directly and do not deal with the Office of International and Off-Campus Education, unless the program requires
that an approval form be sent out by us. With the exception of the LVAIC programs mentioned above, grades earned on summer study abroad programs do not transfer and will not be factored into a Lafayette student's GPA.
