Orientation
First-year students are welcomed to campus each year with a fun and informative three-day program of getting-to-know-you activities, academic preparedness programs, class unity events, awareness building educational workshops, and introductions to campus and student services. Well-trained senior, junior and sophomore student leaders including: Orientation Leaders, Resident Advisors, Peer Counselors, Peer Mentors, International Peer Counselors, LAF Executive Committee members and Landis Center Staff, assist new students with their transition to College during the Orientation period and beyond.
Meet the OLs Activities Fair
During the first week of classes each academic year, the Office of Student Life Programs sponsors the Activities Fair. Representatives from campus clubs and organizations, as well as some departmental programs, are on hand to display information, answer questions, and take names and contact information from potential new participants. Each year, the fair is packed on with activities tables and students looking to get more connected at Lafayette. This fall we had well over 100 groups represented!

1,000 Nights
The 1000 Nights formal for first-year students is a Lafayette tradition that brings approximately 400 members of each year's new class (exclusively) together for dancing and socializing in style. Inspired by the long standing 100 Nights formal tradition for seniors that occurs each spring approximately 100 days before their graduation, the 1000 Nights event gives new students a chance to anticipate and celebrate the 1000 or so college days before their distant Commencement.
Family Weekend
Lafayette hosts the largest annual campus event each fall when it invites its students and their families to enjoy a packed three-day schedule of events for Family Weekend. A committee of students is selected and spends six months planning for this wonderful Lafayette tradition starting with a program theme. The weekend includes student performances and major entertainment, faculty panels, discussions and showcase lectures, athletic events, tours, open houses and exhibits and, of course, lots of food!
