The Musical Diet....for real (And shameless promotion)

I know the last time I wrote a blog about my "high school musical" diet, it was more commentary on the lifestyle of a director more so than an actual diet, but as the show rapidly approaches, I'm quickly remembering the actual musical diet that I Ioathed as an actor.

1) No dairy or caffeine a week before the show in order to keep the vocal chords in tip top condition. (That includes your morning coffee, folks.)
2) You're supposed to drink at least three bottles of water a day.
3) Yay for multi vitamins!
4) Also, dig in to the citrus. That's really helpful.
5) Cough drops and throat spray. Yes, please.
6) Much like a cross country runner, pasta before shows. Musical theater demands energy!

I find myself now preaching the gospel of this diet that I cheated so many times growing up. Oh, how the tables have turned. Maybe it's because I'm a big bad director that doesn't need to eat this stuff for every single meal anymore. (I'm sipping a green tea as I type this) That could be why. But also, I think it's because I sincerely want everyone to sound absolutely fabulous on stage next week, and if grapefruits and Halls makes that happen, then this is the diet I'm going to push on everyone if it kills me. Just call me the milk nazi for the next week. (That includes you, Jill Carey. No ice cream for you!)

In the end, it's just another example of food playing an integral part in how we perform everday tasks. Also, it's an opportunity for me to shamelessly plug the spring musical. April 3, 4, and 5!! Come see it! All the money goes to charity, and the cast is far and away one of the best groups of people I've ever had the pleasure of working with...

...though they may be a little grumpy this week without their morning coffee.

but i like ice cream....haha

I drink milk at pretty much every meal but I'll try to cut down this week....the coffee's probably going to stay though, or I'll fall asleep mid-Status-Quo.
