My Neighborhood
Easton
I work at the fork of the Delaware and Lehigh Rivers in northeastern Pennsylvania. Easton and its environs make up the Lehigh Valley. Easton is one of the oldest cities in British North America. Its Lenapi inhabitants long displaced, its institutions reflect the heritage of primarily English and German settlement. A significant influx of African-Americans after the 1940s and numbers of Lebanese and Latinos, among others, over the past 25 years have increased the demographic diversity of the area. Karl and I do our best to continue this trend.

I had the pleasure of working with the Balch Institute for Ethnic Studies in Philadelphia on an oral history project with first-generation immigrants of South Asian backgrounds from India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Uganda, and Malaysia. Look below for the text of a report. I would welcome your comments.
