Envrionmental Health and Safety

Lafayette College believes in providing a safe and healthy environment for every employee, student, and visitor.

We create, maintain and implement safety programs and procedures, which eliminate recognized hazards, promote safe behavior and provide for the physical integrity of our buildings, equipment and grounds.

Our goal is to comply with applicable Federal, State, and Local regulations and make decisions on safety-related issues according to the following criteria:

1. Imminent danger to life and property
2. Compliance with legal standards
3. Where the benefits exceed the costs
4. Compliance with voluntary or recommended standards

Each department develops, maintains, and continually improves on their comprehensive safety program with support from Public Safety. In addition, our Safety Committee actively participates and provides advise on our overall Safety Program.

Some of the programs which helps us provide a safe and healthy work environment include:

Respiratory Protection, Bloodborne Pathogens, Hazard Communication, Hearing Conservation, Accident Reporting, Fire Safety, Radiation Safety, Electrical Safety, Lockout/Tagout, Confined Space Entry, Laboratory Safety, Radioactive Waste, Infectious Waste, Chemical Waste, Radon Safety, Hot Work Permit, and Personal Protective Equipment.
