Introduction
Leopard
Aviation is composed of 9 Mechanical Engineering students and our
advisor, Mr. Lou Hayden. We have entered into the SAE Aero Design
East competition on April 8 and 9th in Deland, Florida. Combined
with a design report and 10 minute oral presentation, the object
of the competition is to make a successful flight with the maximum
payload possible. Once preliminary research had been done, the group
split up into 7 teams: Aerodynamics, Weight and Center of Gravity,
Propulsion, Stress, Controls, Flight Dynamics, and the Inventor
Modeling.
Leopard
Aviation placed first place in the Regular Class for the Oral Presentation.
We also placed second place for Overall Design, which takes into
account both the Oral Presentation and the Design Report. Awards
were won for both of these accomplishments. In the end, we placed
8th overall after the flying part of the competition. The team members
are: Dan Berteletti, Sam Blaiss, Brian Hauser, Michael McGinnis,
Mark Trybulski, Andrew Sanchez, Wayne Scott, Matt Young and John
Zazzu.
