ROSETO: THE PLACE TO GO
FOR A UNIQUE VIEW OF LIFE IN
SMALL TOWN AMERICA

The Borough of Roseto (population 1,555) is located in the northeastern corner of Northampton County, Pennsylvania, in the shadow of the Pocono Mountains, not far from Pennsylvania Dutch settlements. The terrain is very steep and beautiful as the land rises from Martin's Creek, a tributary of the Delaware River. Roseto is in the so-called "slate belt" area, and is about fifteen miles from the county seat at Easton, eighty miles from Philadelphia, and ninety miles from New York City. For a MAP, click here.

Roseto is a unique day trip experience from any of these places. True small towns are a dying breed in the United States, the land of the rapidly encroaching suburb. Roseto derives its name from the Italian village Roseto Valfortore. The first Rosetans began to work in the quarries in 1882, and by 1912 Roseto was incorporated as a borough. Roseto is an Italian-American community that still retains most of its one hundred plus year old heritage and way of life. The inhabitants of Roseto borough are uncommonly friendly and accommodating, it is truly they who make the town so special. Roseto has been the subject of three books in the last thirty years: The Two Rosetos (1974), The Power of the Clan (1993) and The Roseto Story which discuss in detail the effect of powerful communal and familial ties on the health of Rosetan citizens. You can tell just from looking at the arrangement of houses on the street that Roseto is a community oriented town; the houses are close to one another with porches that face the street so that neighbors are always within range for gossip.

Roseto borough is truly a treasured exception in a fast paced and impersonal society. See it today!
