Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Greek Organization?
A Greek Organization is a group of young men or young women who assemble themselves under specific guidelines set forth by the national or international bylaws. Traditionally founded on the values of Scholarship, Leadership, Brotherhood/Sisterhood and Service, each fraternity or sorority has a philanthropy for which they raise money by holding on-campus events; members are invited to attend conferences that will ensure personal growth, as well as gaining contacts that will help in their future endeavors.
What is involved in being a New Member?
Being a New Member of a Greek Organization is an exciting time. New Members make a variety of new friends in their chapter, and get used to everything it has to offer. The New Member period before the initiation ceremony is three weeks long, during which members are educated about the history of the Inter/National organization's founding, chapter operations and expectations of membership, prior to being initiated.
How much time does a Fraternity or Sorority take?
Many members of Fraternities and Sororities are involved in a multitude of activities besides belonging to a Greek Organization. They are on sports teams, participating in internships and work-study jobs, etc., but still devote time to their house. As demonstrated here, students’ grades are not necessarily impacted by this time commitment - our all-Greek average GPA typically surpasses the average GPA for unaffiliated students.
I'm Concerned about my Student's grades. What impact would Greek Membership have?
This is a common concern for many parents and students alike. However, the majority of students find that they are able to keep up with all of their activities, while attaining academic success.
What's the Cost?
Each sorority and fraternity has a certain amount of dues to be paid each semester. This money goes towards insurance, inter/national fees, housing, operations and social budgets. Payment plans and financial aid are available upon request.
