First Year Student RegistrationLafayette College Advanced Placement Credit 2008-2009Lafayette participates in the Advanced Placement examination program of the College Entrance Examination Board (CEEB). Candidates interested in receiving course credit and placement in advanced classes should make sure that their official scores have been forwarded by the CEEB to Lafayette College. Lafayette cannot grant any AP credit without possession of the official AP score report. A score of either 4 or 5 on most examinations, and 3 or above on selected others, will earn course credit and advanced placement. The Lafayette faculty determine score assignments each spring/summer. It is possible to receive sophomore standing with sufficient credit. If I don't know my AP score yet, how do I make course selections? Because AP scores are normally distributed in early July, you will need to make your course placement selection using your best judgment. If you have a strong background in the subject and feel that you did well on the AP exam, we encourage you to select the course that represents the higher level (e.g., I think I did well on the Calculus AB exam, so I am likely to receive credit for Math 161. I can now select Math 162 if it relates to my major or if I would like to take it). Because during your online registration session you might find that an upper level course is not listed, please be prepared to register for the available (lower-level) course. After AP scores are received in July, the Registrar's Office will send you official notification of any credit earned. At that time you may contact either the Registrar or the Class of 2012 Dean about selecting an upper-level course. The credit awards for the 2008-2009 academic year are as follows:
Notes: A - Must pass both Microeconomics and Macroeconomics. INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE CREDITThe offical results of the Higher-level examination of the International Baccalaureate are considered for academic course credit at Lafayette College. Acceptable score levels for the IB program are 5 or higher in all subjects. Each department will determine the specific amount of credit, but in general credit awards follow the AP listing above. No credit is awarded for Subsidiary-level examinations. The full IB Diploma may qualify the holder for additional credit. Lafayette College does not award credit for the CLEP examination.
