Allan P. Kirby Sports Center

Created through the construction of a 110,000-square-foot facility for intramural and recreational sports and the extensive renovation of an adjacent field house built in 1973 for varsity programs, the Allan P. Kirby Sports Center gives Lafayette the finest athletic complex of any college of its size in the country. The center opened in spring 2000.

The new portion of the center features an atrium facing Fisher Field, the Kamine Gymnasium containing three multipurpose 50-by-84-foot courts, the Buck Courts (six courts for racquet sports, two dedicated to squash, and four that can be configured for either squash or racquetball), jogging track, 35-foot climbing wall, fitness center, aerobics area, weight room, and additional offices.

Enhancements to the original field house, which contains Ruef Natatorium, include a new sports medicine area, equipment room, renovated locker rooms and administrative offices, a major facelift for the exterior, and modernization of the lobby and Athletic Hall of Fame display. Kirby Sports Center

Allan Price Kirby '15 was a devoted alumnus, a dedicated trustee (1937-67), and an enthusiastic supporter of Lafayette's athletic program. Among his other gifts to the College are the Kirby Collection of Historical Paintings and the Jessie A. Kirby Residence Hall, a memorial to his mother. The creation of the center was made possible through the exemplary generosity of the F. M. Kirby Foundation, Inc.
