Dr. Thomas R. Schneider has been assessing and developing new energy technologies for more than three decades. In 2003 Dr. Schneider served as an IEEE Congressional Science and Technology Fellow in the U. S. Senate and is a past chair of the IEEE-USA Energy Policy Committee. Dr. Schneider is Chair, IEEE-USA Plug-in Vehicle Task Force and a member of the IEEE Power Engineering Society Long Range Planning Committee and is currently an instructor in a Power Engineering Society course in advanced generation and storage technology.
A native of New Jersey and graduate of Stevens Institute of Technology with his doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Schneider pursued early research in renewables as a NSF Post-doctoral Fellow before joining PSE&G Planning and Research. At PSE&G, Dr. Schneider had responsibility for Research and Planning in Advanced Generation and Storage. Subsequently Dr. Schneider was recruited to join the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) in the very early days and served as Program Manager, Department Director and Executive Scientist at EPRI. Currently, Dr. Schneider is an independent consultant in energy technology, resources and strategy for private industry and non-profits on issues such as distributed generation, renewable resources, electric power reliability and electric utility deregulation, applications of new materials and superconductors in electrical equipment, and mitigation of greenhouse gases. Dr. Schneider has published on topics ranging from efficiency of photosynthesis to the criteria for future fusion power plants and the role of energy efficiency.
