Lafayette Physics Club

All students with an interest in Physics are invited to join the Lafayette Physics Club. You don't have to be a Physics major to join. The purposes of the club are described in the Physics Club Activities Statement.

Membership in the local club is independent of membership in the national Society of Physics Students; students may elect to participate in the local club without paying dues to the national Society. The national dues buy a small measure of prestige; a subscription to Physics Today, the monthly publication of the American Physical Society; and the opportunity to subscribe to Scientific American at reduced rates.

The primary activities of the Physics Club include 4-5 noon-time talks each semester. One or two of these talks each semester are given by invited guests, usually eminent physicists from universities or industry. Other talks are given by faculty members from the Physics Department or related departments on campus, and the final talks in the Spring semester each year are given by candidates for departmental honors. Lunch is provided free for all students.

Other activities of the club include: tours of a major academic or industrial research facilities; showings of science fiction videos; ice cream socials; stargazing parties, and an annual picnic.

We have a low-volume mailing list for announcements of physics-related activities on campus. To subscribe, simply send an email to PhysicsClub-subscribe@lafayette.edu.
