College denies rumor that STC is "blocking" calls
Recent rumors that STC Telephone Services has been blocking 1-800-CALL-ATT calls have been denied by Lafayette College.
Students have reportedly been having problems making the toll-free calls, complaining that they have been getting a busy signal from the number. Tests conducted by The Lafayette yielded varying results. Some staff members encountered the busy-signal, others did not.
According to Bruce Ferretti, director of plant operations, rumors of call blockage are incorrect. Ferretti outlined STC’s methods of long-distance calling. STC has a group of telephone lines that accept the 1-800 numbers. The lines may potentially become very busy at times, so some students will be unable to connect, he said.
Ferretti commented that blocking telephone calls is “highly against STC policies.”
AT&T Customer Services has stated that there have been no complaints from callers, as did STC Services and Lafayette Plant Operations.
