Campus construction on schedule
by Matt Markosian

Hugel Hall and Kirby Field House will be completed on schedule, said C.C. Smith of Bovis construction this week.

“Things are moving toward fall occupancy of Hugel Hall and Kirby,” said Smith. Kirby’s initial occupancy will begin during late August and continue in phases during September and October. According to the college, Hugel Hall was originally scheduled for completion in December 2000. "Once the new Hugel Hall is occupied we should begin the renovation of Olin,” added Smith.

Although on time, the initial schedule was modified due to difficulties experienced in constructing some of the foundations. Rock and other foundation conditions at both Hugel Hall and Kirby Field house were more difficult than expected, said Smith.

There have also been some changes in the college’s construction policy. If a contractor is unable to meet the master schedule, Bovis awards the contract to another firm, said Smith.
