Detail, Wegner Grotto

Cataract, Wisconsin

A lifelong pacifist, Paul Wegner built a Peace Monument as the centerpiece of his construction.

This detail from the monument shows Wegner’s technique of densely-packing the concrete base with sharp bits of transparent glass.  He favors blues, greens, and browns in the composition.

Wegner uses relatively more glass and less stone than do other Midwestern folk artists.
