Entry Arch to the Wegner Grotto

Cataract, Wisconsin

The Wegner Grotto contains monuments to hearth, home, and family.  The entrance to the former homestead created by Paul Wegner included an arch, studded with glass rosettes and topped by a ceramic bird.  The dedication HOME invites the visitor to the Wegners’ property.

Other constructions on or near the site include a glass-studded mantel from the home’s fireplace; a wishing well; and headstones for members of the Wegner family.  A four-foot-high replica of Paul and Matilda Wegner’s fiftieth wedding anniversary cake reminds visitors of the personal and domestic nature of the grotto.
