Grotto Façade

Dickeyville, Wisconsin

The main structure of the Dickeyville Grotto is the Grotto of the Blessed Virgin.  The exterior is constructed of slabs of concrete studded with stone, glass, and other material.

Details of symbols important in Catholic ritual are worked out on the surface.  The Vatican flag to the left of the grotto’s entrance and the American flag to its right introduce visitors to the site’s dual themes of religion and patriotism.
