The
façade of the main grotto at Dickeyville includes symbols of Catholic faith
made of colorful material set into concrete.
In this detail, a faux column is decorated with a rosary. The rosettes are made of bits of opaque green glass set off by a background of white quartz.
The spheres studding the top of the column are gear shift knobs.
Work on this structure began in 1925, the date commemorated
on the front of the building (just left of the rosary). The structure was dedicated in 1930, shortly before
Father Wernerus’ death.
