84k jpg of a male wasp perching on my finger

I slowly approached this male cicada-killer as he rested on his perch above a lek, keeping as low to the ground as possible. As I approached, I pointed my finger at him and very slowly brought it up under his front legs, just as one offers a finger to a tame bird on a perch. He immediately crawled onto my finger and let me lift him several feet in the air while taking the picture with my other hand. He remained in place as I slowly left the lek, but then flew back to his perch. This is best attempted when there are few or no other males on the lek, as the male you are inducing to mount your finger will frequently leave his perch to invesigate other males if they fly by, making it difficult to keep his attention long enough to persuade him to perch on your finger.
