WELCOME to the First-Year Seminar Home Page!

STUDENTS:

The First-Year Seminar (FYS) at Lafayette College is offered during the first semester and is part of the Common Course of Study. It is designed, first and foremost, to introduce incoming students to the intellectual life of the College community. Limited to 16 students, each seminar focuses on a special topic -- through which participants develop reading, writing, discussion, and oral presentation skills. The course also provides an introduction to library research.

Each FYS is affiliated with Lafayette's College Writing Program, which supports students throughout their college careers. Classes also incorporate a variety of co-curricular events, such as attending live performances or visiting museum exhibits (see the College's on-line data base for course descriptions).
