Give candidate job description, explain a bit about the basics of working here. Say that same questions will be asked of all candidates. Interview questions are designed to take about 15 - 20 minutes.

  1. So why do you want to work in the library/with the ILP?

  2. Some of the tasks you will be asked to perform are demanding - helping librarians to teach classes with folks who range in age from eight to eighty. What special skills or strengths can you bring to this position?

  3. You will need to deal with the public as part of this job - we serve UMF and the community as a whole. I see you have worked --------- (retail, or other job - or in a club or activity in HS) Tell me about a time in a past job when a (customer) got angry. How did you handle the situation?

  4. Tell us about a time when you had more work to do than you could finish by a deadline.

  5. Tell us about a problem you had with a supervisor. What action did you take?

  6. Hypothetical situation: one of your co-workers consistently uses work time to do personal tasks. What (if anything) would you do?

  7. Do you have any questions for us?

Thank you for interviewing.

I have several other people to interview for this position. We will be making our decisions the afternoon of ______________ and will get back to you by then. Thank you.
