August 2008 Trip to El Convento and La Fortunta, Honduras
A group of ten students together with two advisors from EWB has traveled to Honduras this August to construct and assess the water treatment, pipeline and sanititation system in the village of La Fortuna and to assess the viability of different water systems in the village of El Convento. In La Fortuna, the group completed assessment on the slow sand filter and the ventilation improve pit latrine, constructed the pressure-break tank, identified the weakness of the greywater system, and educated the community about the water system. In El Convento, the group identifed potential tank and groundwater site, tested the water quality and quantity and collected GPS information of the area. Using the information gathered, EP 480 class will conduct fesibility studies on design of pipeline, pilla and watershed protection for future construction planning. Read more

February 23rd, 08, EWB Workshop Day I, Easton, PA
This semester EWB splits up into numerous teams, including the fundraising, cultural, groundwater, water-treatment, surveying, alternative energy and coliform testing team. Students from the different teams came together during the workshop.
January,08 Second Implementation Trip to La Fortuna, Honduras
Seven students and a professional mentor from EWB, four students and an advisor from Alternative School Break (ASB) and a person from Blue Future Filters, Inc, Peter Blackburn, traveled to La Fortuna, Honduras to construct the slow sand filters, build the greywater system, educate the community about the system, and collect economic data for potential entrepreneurial project in the future. The group completed the greywater system and the set up of the slow sand filters, while training the water board to carry out various tests on the slow sand filter. A pilot testing period for the slow sand filter is ongoing until the next trip in August 2008 to ensure that the slow sand filter is functioning properly.
EWB Lafayette Fall 2007 semester activities
EWB-Lafayette College (LC) has been very busy this past semester. During the fall we applied for EWB-USA, NCIIA, and EPA grants. EWB-USA awarded EWB-Lafayette College $4,000 from the Richard and Rhoda Goldman Fund. EWB-LC will be hearing back from the NCIIA and EPA grant committees during the spring semester. The money from these grants will help the chapter fund the El Convento project. The chapter also raised close to $250 at our end-of-semester bake sale. This money was used to buy academic supplies and clothing for EWB-LC’s current village, La Fortuna. Read more
Oct 6th, 07: EWB Northeast Regional Conference, Glasboro, NJ
Six EWB Lafayette members attended the northeast regional conference at Rowan Univeristy in New Jersey. Members had a chance to learn more about projects that other schools are working on as well as gain some handy technical field knowledge and fundraising ideas. Students were also able to network with other EWB chapter members and professionals. EWB Lafayette also came in third place for the sudent design competition which involved building a pasteurizer using recycled materials.
Sep 29th 07: EWB Workshop Day I, Easton, PA
EWB Lafayette held its first workshop day on campus. The aim of the workshop day was to bring together all the separate groups working on the project to collaborate and learn from each other as well as get to know each other. To add to the treat there was delicious Latin American food on offer!
August, 07 First Implementation Trip to La Fortuna, Honduras
A team of 7 students and a professional mentor plan to visit the village of La Fortuna for 2 weeks in mid-August in order to initiate the implementation stage. They plan to educate the community on best construction practices as well as the operational and maintenance procedures for the system.
EWB Coffee Enterprenuerial Project, Easton,PA/Honduras
A team of 3 students worked on a summer research project to develop an enterpreneurial project for the community of Lagunitas. They then spent three weeks on the ground in Honduras implementing their solution. This research was aided by a $10,000, 100 Projects for Peace grant won by the EWB Lafayette chapter. Read more!
March, '07 Trip to El-Convento, Honduras
Students completed a successful initial site assessment of the village of El-Convento. This included a thorough health and community survery to understand the specific needs of the community. A topographic survey of a possible pipeline route was also begun but not completed.
