- Participate in the Career Services Gateway Program
- Take courses that challenge and interest you. Remember, there is no academic major specifically required for law school.
- Make the commitment to learn how to write well.
- Attend the on-campus program: “Considering Law School?” and other legal professions programs offered by the Office of the Dean of the College.
Sophomore Year
Fall:
- Keep your commitment to learn how to write well and take courses that challenge and interest you.
- Attend legal professions programs offered by the Office of the Dean of the College.
Spring:
- Declare your major(s) in the spring semester.
- Continue to participate in the Career Services Gateway Program
- Use Career Services resources, the Internet, and personal contacts to search for possible summer internship experiences of interest to you.
- Attend the on-campus program: “Considering Law School?” and other legal professions programs offered by the Office of the Dean of the College.
Junior Year
Fall:
- Use Career Services resources., the Internet, and personal contacts to search for possible summer internship experiences.
- Experience a sample LSAT prep class presented by Kaplan PrepTest on Wednesday, October 7 in Hugel 100 from noon to 1 p.m. Register
- Take a free practice LSAT on campus Saturday, October 17 from 9:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Simon 003 proctored by Kaplan PrepTest. Register
- Attend legal professions programs offered by the Office of the Dean of the College.
- Attend the Law School Admissions Council (LSAC) Law School Forum in New York City.
Spring:
- If you choose, register to take and prepare for the June LSAT
- Speak with professors who know you well about writing letters for you (two professors are recommended).
- Use Career Services resources, the Internet, and personal contacts to search for possible summer internship experiences.
Summer:
- Register with the Law School Data Assembly Service (LSDAS).
- Begin to draft your personal statement and follow these helpful tips.
- If you did not take the June LSAT or if you choose to take it again, register to take and prepare for the fall LSAT.
Senior Year
Fall:
Make sure your professors and others send in their letters of recommendation to the Credential Assembly Service.
- Take or re-take the fall LSAT.
- Consult with Dean Karen Clemence to finalize your personal statement and develop your application strategy.
- Update your resume and get formatting help from Career Services
- Send your transcript to the Credential Assembly Service (LSDAS).
- Attend the Law School Admissions Council (LSAC) Law School Forum in New York City.
- Use the LSAC website to fill out electronic law school applications and apply as early as possible. Frequently Asked Questions.
Spring:
- January: complete the Free Application for Federal Aid (FAFSA) and complete your law school financial aid applications.
- February through April: wait for admissions decisions and visit law schools.
- Make a deposit with one law school.
- If you are on waitlists, update law schools on grades, honors, etc.
