Composition of classes: About 40% female and 60% male

Eight full-time faculty, all with PhDs

On average, 70 - 80% of graduates have job or graduate school offers at the time of graduation. Within six months of graduation over 95% of graduates are employed or enrolled in graduate school.

Recent graduates have been employed by Merck & Co., Eli Lilly, Rohm and Haas, Foster Wheeler, Colgate Palmolive, Mallinckrodt Baker, Air Products and Chemicals, Procter and Gamble, Arkema, Akzo Nobel, Schering-Plough, Picatinny Arsenal, Sanofi Pasteur, Environmental Resource Management, ExxonMobil, GlaxoSmithKline, IBM Consulting, Johnson & Johnson, and PECO Energy.

Students have routinely participated in the study-abroad program. Last year five spent one semester in Germany and Spain and many more participated in interim abroad programs.

Technical electives are offered in Materials Science and Engineering (Metals, Ceramics, Polymers, Composites), Biochemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Colloid and Interface Science, and upper-level Computer Science and Computational Methods courses.

Chemical Engineering majors can easily earn a minor in biotechnology/bioengineering, environmental studies, math, or economics.

This past summer nine students were involved in faculty/student research projects through the EXCEL Scholars Program.

Every year five to ten ChE students participate at the annual meeting of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) in November and present research papers at the student poster session.

Seniors often do honors theses; five graduated with honors last year.

The department offers concentrations in biotechnology, environmental engineering, and materials..
