Overview

We have developed a series of coverages of the watershed based on the Lehigh Valley Planning Commission GIS (see Hydrologic Information System page). As part of the Bushkill Creek watershed project, we will be registering all of our data to the GIS. This will allow us to correlate spatial trends in hydrology, stream chemistry, and sedimentation, with factors such as topography, geology, land use, soil type, etc. The GIS was also used to develop a seven subbasin HEC-HMS stormwater model of the watershed. We will eventually apply a fully distributed stormwater runoff model based on the GIS data and DEM.

As an example of the usefulness of this type of data, a digital elevation model (DEM) can been used to determine the contributing area and hypsometry for the watershed.
