Information Regarding Routine Pelvic Exams
It is important to refrain from sexual intercourse, douching,
and any intravaginal medications for at least 48 hours before
your exam. When you schedule your appointment, please indicate to the secretary or nurse if this is a repeat yearly exam, your first exam and/or you have a particularly urgent problem.
Meagan L. Grega, M.D will perform the physical examination and one of the health center nurses will assist her. The physical examination is free. There is a $35 lab fee for processing and reviewing the pap smear slides. This $35 fee is due at time of exam OR it can be submitted to your insurance company. (However, when submitted to your insurance, it will no longer be confidential). If your pap smear is abnormal and requires a pathologist's review, there will be an additional $25 fee. It takes approximately two weeks for us to receive the results of your pap smear. We will notify you with the results.
All sexually active women are encouraged to have a cotton swab culture of the cervix to check for chlamydia and gonorrhea. Both diseases can be completely without symptoms and untreated chlamydia is the number one cause of infertility in this country. The cost of these tests is $30 at the time of your exam.
For those who desire a confidential HIV (AIDS) test, it is available at a discounted fee of $11. Orasure Quick HIV Test is $23. Ask the physician privately in her office following the completion of your examination.
To provide more privacy, all pelvic exams are performed on the second floor of the Bailey Health Center facing McCartney Street.

present in the office. All students are requested to remain in the
center for 30 minutes after their injection(s).
