welcome
Like all engineers, mechanical engineers
are problem solvers and inventors. They design, develop, and construct
internal combustion engines, machinery, power plants, aerospace
and other transportation vehicles, alternative energy sources
and biomedical devices. They work in manufacturing, marketing,
management, research, education, and system design and development
to name a few. The career opportunities for the degreed mechanical
engineer are diverse and challenging, and filled with promise
and opportunity. As a mechanical engineer you will be able to
make a real difference in the world around you.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers a comprehensive
curriculum that prepares students for professional work or further
study at the graduate level. The curriculum includes a solid grounding
in mathematics, science, and technology, along with electives
in the humanities and social sciences. Design, a central component
of the mechanical engineering program, is integrated throughout
the curriculum. Students use contemporary engineering computer
software and apply modern manufacturing processes in analyzing
and constructing their design projects. Facilities include laboratories
for modern manufacturing, internal combustion engines, thermo-fluids,
automation, controls, instrumentation, and materials. All majors
do a year long senior design project. Seniors may elect to do
independent study or honors thesis research. |
