“I learned more than what’s in books,” says Heather Stoltz ’00, a mechanical engineering and Jewish Studies graduate. “I learned to make every minute count and how to be a leader—something I was far from being before coming here.”

Stoltz is a mechanical engineer for Delta Glide, Hamden, Conn., the industry leader in power-assist technology for wheelchairs. “My adviser helped me identify a career that met my goals. I wanted to apply my mechanical engineering knowledge but I also wanted to help people. So I looked for positions in the medical field.” Her adviser helped her match her criteria for a job with the companies in the marketplace.

A part of the Gateway program is encouraging students to take advantage of leadership and internship opportunities. Stoltz did internships every summer, was Hillel Society president, founder of the Gymnastics Club, and on the varsity diving team. She taught at B'nai Abraham Hebrew School in Easton.
