ACACIA was set up at the end of Fall 2003, with the aim of unifying the African students attending the LVAIC schools, namely Lafayette College, Lehigh University, DeSales University, Muhlenberg College, Moravian University, and Cedar-Crest College. In addition, ACACIA strives to educate both African students, and those interested in Africa, about the current events, history, life, politics, etc, of the continent and her people.
As a young organization, ACACIA has yet to establish itself as a force both within the Lafayette Communitiy, as well as in the Lehigh Valley Community. One of our first activities, together with LACSA (Lafayette African and Caribbean Students Association), and the Africana Studies Department, was a conference entitled “Africa: Turning Our Impediments into Stepping Stones”.
With the objective to Educate, Uplift and Unite, ACACIA has many other plans in mind, that will bring about an increased sense and awareness of what is taking place in Africa, and we will continually be posting notices of our different events.
